Boulder Elopement Photographer

Alli and Josh got married on October 19th, 2024. They had their closest friends and family meet them in Boulder, Colorado where they recently moved! One of my best friends introduced me to Alli and Josh years ago when we were all in college.

I arrived at the amazing rental house they stayed at and got ready together in. Alli chose to do a first look with Josh plus all of their friends who are also unofficial bridesmaids and groomsmen. The moment was perfect- the dress itself was a complete surprise to everyone.

After the first look, we left for Flagstaff Mountain near the Halfway House where Alli and Josh exchanged their vows privately as their friends and family watched from afar at the ceremony site. It was cloudy, and I loved the intimacy of these moments they were able to spend together.

Alli and Josh made their way up the path to the Halfway house where their guests were waiting. Their ceremony was short with a few speeches including Alli’s dad mentioning lots of funny stories from Alli’s childhood. Afterwards, their guests signed their marriage license as witnesses.

We made time for couples portraits of Alli and Josh too. I loved capturing a moment where Josh remembered that he had apple pie moonshine for them to share as a newly married couple.

Finally, we went to the base of Chautauqua Park to take photos of the wedding party and to enjoy the views. Most of their family, friends and guests flew out to Boulder from Chicago, so the views were well appreciated.

How to Elope at a Courthouse in Denver, CO

Here’s some important parts about courthouse elopements from myself as an elopement photographer in Colorado:

  • Residency in Colorado is not required! You don’t need to live here to get a marriage license

  • There’s no waiting period, so you’re able to get married right after getting your license, although it’s a good idea to get the license a few days in advance if possible

  • The license fee in Denver is around $30

  • Be sure to check in with the magistrates who are available to officiate your elopement

On the day of your courthouse elopement, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Bring your marriage license and at least one witness. The courthouses can provide a witness for a fee if needed.

  • The ceremony will only last 5 to 15 minutes and the officiant will file your license afterwards to make it official!

  • Allow extra time to park downtown and walk to the courthouse in order to arrive on time.

My good friends Amber and Nick lived in Colorado when they met, and now they’ve relocated, so neither of them are residents of Colorado. They chose to elope at the Byron White Courthouse in Denver. I loved the architecture of the building and using it for photos.

A lot of my clients mention how much fun they have on their wedding day, but that the extensive planning leading up to the day is not as ideal. So you might choose to have a courthouse elopement for the simplicity of it and the lower costs in comparison to an all-day event or wedding. For Amber and Nick, they chose to make their marriage official in Denver where they met and lived for awhile. They will be having a big wedding with family and friends in 2025 as well!

If you’ve never had professional photos taken before, it can feel intimidating to be in front of a camera for an hour. You might forget how to exist without thinking about it. This is how I feel in front of a camera! This is the main reason why I talk with you and all of my clients before the sesison, on the phone or via email, to discuss expectations and help to ease your mind about any worries.

Some of the most important considerations for your photo session are what kind of photos you like. Do you prefer photos where you are looking directly into the camera and smiling most of the time? Photos that are more candid and documentary where you’re mostly not looking into the camera?

All of my clients are satisfied with their sessions during and afterwards with the final images because of a few factors- I’m a professional with high quality equipment and knowledge about perspective, framing, exposure etc. and mainly because I am an excellent communicator. I check in throughout the session and asks lots of clarifying questions to ensure that the expectations are clearly made. I am happy to make recommendations for poses, locations and prompts based on my expertise. I also recognize that people are unique and we all have our own unique vision that we want to see come to life in photos.

Photography is a luxury service, so I want my clients to feel that they’re cared for, heard and that they receive the most high quality images. Before a session, I always create a mood board with sample photos for my clients based on what kind of images they prefer. I also ask clients to tell me if they have any concerns with posing in order to emphasize or de-emphasize parts of their body.

For these family photos with Karl, Leanna, Molly and their dog, Annie, Leanna had let me know that they enjoy candid poses with real moments. For these types of photos, I like to highlight that the photo shoot is also an event to enjoy and be present during. That I do my best to be a fly on the wall that also offers light posing that may include how to sit in a certain position or looking at each other and holding hands.

Documenting families is such an important thing to preserve. As time passes and we age, so many things change, yet seem the same until we look back on photos. Photos are time capsules and there is never a wrong time to have more done.

Boulder, Colorado Boudoir Photographer

Although I’m based in Boulder Colorado, I will absolutely travel to Denver for this incredible space again and again! I loved how bright and airy the front room is and how dark and moody the back rooms are. This was such a good location for boudoir. As intimidating as it can seem to have boudoir photos taken, we can get on a video call before the shoot so we can get to know each other a little better and talk about any concerns you might have.

I will always pose you and show you what to do! We play your favorite music and have a fun time creating for an hour or so. Every woman I’ve taken boudoir photos for has told me how empowered and confident they feel about themselves afterwards. A photoshoot of any kind can boost confidence, but something as intimate as boudoir is so special.
